Affiliate marketing is a great way to make money, you just have to find your niche and setup some banners on your website. The art of making money with affiliate marketing is finding a good product or business, and then knowing how to promote them to get commissions. It is rare that you find affiliate marketing scams, but they are out. However, they are easy to spot if you do some basic research into the company.

Before signing up to affiliate a company, see if they have:
-a website
-products and services
-free participation
-affiliate support

If they don’t have one or more of the above, then this should send up a red flag. Some companies have little affiliate support because they are new, but the others are essential. They need a website for online relations, you are promoting their products and services, and this affiliate relation should make them money, so there is no reason to pay them a registration fee.

Now, how do you succeed in affiliate marketing? Start out my identifying your niche. Most people market products within a niche they know or are interested in. Do you happen to know a lot about baseball cards? Then affiliate with companies selling them.

Know who your readers are. If you are writing content for seasoned professionals, but your audience consists of newcomers, then you may not see many affiliate sales. You can check your demographics through various website analytics tools, or by going through comments on your website. If you serve your audience, they will be more likely to click your affiliate ads.

Write evergreen content that promotes your affiliates. You can make money by writing content like “Best Baseball Cards of 2011,” and this content tends to earn well, but it only earns well for that one year. If you write evergreen, or timeless, content, then you will serve your audience for years.

Place the affiliate ads in hot zones. Don’t place the ad at the bottom of an article if people don’t read all the way to the bottom. This means no one will see the ad, meaning no one will click on it. Place the affiliate ads near the top, or to the sides, where readers will assuredly look.

Only promote products you agree or believe in. If you start promoting scam products, even if you don’t know they are, you may see a dip in traffic and commissions. Always research the affiliate first, and place up useful ads for your readers. If you follow these steps you will be on your way to making money online with affiliate marketing.
