Best Home-Based Business Opportunity

Posted on Tuesday, 19th April 2011 in Internet Marketing, Make Money Online, Work From Home

The combination of technological advances and strong commerce infrastructres today have created diverse business opportunities that can be operated from home. The Internet, in particular, has made it possible for individuals to start home-based businesses that can reach the global marketplace. One good example is information marketing, which is considered by some as the most profitable online venture today.

Information marketing is the business of selling informational products such as e-books, audiobooks, e-zines/e-newsletters, webinars, online classes, and/or special reports that are sometimes called ‘white papers’. Getting into the information business is fairly cheap and can be started by almost anyone. In this business, it is more important to possess some knowledge of a particular subject than to have big start-up funds. There are countless people today who are willing to pour in their money to obtain certain types of information.

When targeted properly, even simple information can be highly profitable. Not only can informational products be created and re-sold for very little overhead, they can also be a source of residual income. In other words, a product will continue to make money for as long as it is on the market. The key to success is to spot ‘niche markets’, which are tight-knit sub-groups within an umbrella market. For instance, within the college population, there are niches such as athletes, musicians, fashionistas, and math majors.

How to Get Started:

1. Decide which niche to target. It is much easier and profitable to have a small but tight customer base with highly similar needs as opposed to having a wide audience with scattered interests.

2. Purchase some basic equipment. Having a computer and a PDF software is a must. However, some people may also need to buy web cameras or audio recording software to create their products.

3. Create a product. Today’s multimedia tools have made it easier for home-based entrepreneurs to produce their material. The real work lies in creating value for the product and in establishing one’s expertise on a subject. Doing this may require some research and/or interviews with proven experts.

4. Sell the product. This can be done either by creating a website or selling through online megastores like Amazon or Ebay. The latter is ideal for those with limited technical expertise in designing websites.

Information marketing is a great way to make money and is perfect for people who love to share their knowledge to others.

Overcome Your Home Business Inexperience

Overcome Your Inexperience

Everyone has to start somewhere no matter what kind of home business your getting into or getting involved with. So don’t let that hinder or slow down or be an excuse that your inexperienced in the home based business industry!

I noted that ageism actually works in your favor when you strike out on your own. Owning your own business remakes you from an employee who seems “too old” into a consultant who is wise and experienced.

Conversely, if you are on the opposite end of the experience ladder, you might struggle gaining the confidence of potential clients. If you don’t have at least three to five years of experience in your chosen line of work, you will need to prove to prospective customers that you have what it takes to work for them. (And no, a college degree, in and of itself, won’t cut it.) For those with little or no experience, you might have the necessary credibility if you:

• Started a business (and operated it successfully) earlier in your life

• Worked at a job in your chosen field while attending school

• Have a solid background in business in general and possess sufficient basic business and interpersonal skills (often called “transferable skills”) In all three cases, however, you will be working harder than other business owners, who have the experience you don’t. Seriously consider this. The average 12-hour day of a new business owner might be 14 or 16 hours for you, as you gain experience others already possess.

More Work At Home Business Marketing Techniques

Posted on Sunday, 2nd November 2008 in General

Continuing on with more home based business marketing techniques that are useful.

Website

If you’re a service business, your website acts as a sort of virtual brochure. It will be rare that someone contacts you strictly after seeing your website with no other contact. Websites are vital, but they work best in conjunction with other forms of marketing. Although updating your website might be considered part of your marketing work, don’t fixate on your website to the exclusion of meeting real people and connecting.

Cold Calling

I’ve never tried this, and quite frankly, never want to. Before the “do not call” list went into effect, my responses to telemarketers ranged from professional but abrupt to downright nasty (for which I’ve done penance). Because most of us feel the same way, why would you want to market your business in such an annoying way? Can you imagine someone barging into your home any time they feel like it? This is what cold callers are doing – barging in, and unilaterally attempting to change the recipient’s calendar and priorities. Because it’s also time-consuming, draining, and rarely the image you want anyway, you will probably want to avoid it in most instances.

How do you get the attention of that ideal client who is a business? If you can’t find a personal connection, send a marketing package (cover letter and brochure minimum – press clippings if you have them) to the key decision maker. Make a follow-up call one week later, asking if he received the package, and does he have any questions. But even here, be prepared for a low return – many decision makers have gatekeepers, and/or routinely discard unsolicited mail. Avoid any “pseudo-cold-calling” strategies. In other words, don’t call strangers and say that you’re conducting a survey, providing information only, or any other strategy used to weasel out of saying that you’re cold calling.

With the Do Not Call registry in place, calling consumers (for example, private individuals) can be a costly mistake. Businesses are not covered by this registry, however, and some exceptions for calling consumers include calls from charities and calls from political organizations. If you’d still like to make cold calls, particularly to private households, be sure to check out the Federal Trade Commission’s Do Not Call website, ftc.gov/donotcall/. Contact a lawyer if you are uncertain whether the specific calling you are doing is prohibited.

Home Business Industry Knowledge

Posted on Sunday, 5th October 2008 in Work From Home

3. Asset: Industry Knowledge

+ You easily pass this question if you have at least three to five years’ experience providing the service or product you plan to offer through your business, and you know the industry well. But demote yourself to a check score if all of your experience is with only one employer.
√ If you have less than three years’ experience, but know the industry well, you still pass.
– If you have less than three years’ experience and do not know the industry well, you fail the question.

How To Improve:

• You really need industry knowledge. By that, I mean that you have some understanding of issues such as these, as they affect your business:

Are there slow and busy times within the industry? What professional organizations are important to belong to? How is your profession or industry structured? What divisions exist for entry level, mid-career, and advanced levels?

What happens during the normal course of business? For instance, if your industry is publishing, what happens in order for a book to be published? Can you name all the steps? Which steps would a
customer expect you to perform, and which would be referred elsewhere? What is the jargon used in your industry or profession? What words will you need to know in order to communicate with people while doing your work? How is the industry segmented?

Using publishing as an example again, do you know that the industry is segmented in to small publishers, specialty publishers, large publishers with multiple imprints, and so on? What rules govern your industry or profession? What licensing is required? Which government agencies regulate the industry/profession?

If you don’t have industry knowledge appropriate to the work from home business you’re planning to launch, there are two things you can do:

a) Stay in the work force and gain the knowledge you need, or

b) Choose an industry in which you have more experience and knowledge. This is one positive aspect of regular employment. Employers provide great on-the-job training—the results of which are tough (and expensive) to replicate. It is much more cost-effective to gain experience (and make mistakes) on someone else’s dime.

Is This Work at Home Business Legitimate?

Posted on Wednesday, 20th August 2008 in Work From Home

Despite being the current trend, many people still find it scary letting go of their corporate jobs and venture into work at home opportunities. For them looking for that legitimate sure-fire work-at-home-business is just a matter of chance and being lucky. Of course finding these kinds of jobs is a daunting task, but if you’re smart enough to look at the right places, searching should be just as fun and rewarding if you indeed find that perfect work at home business for you.

People often mistake finding jobs with finding businesses. Mostly because they look at both as giving them security when it comes to earning. They don’t know that a 9-5 job, for example, is the secured choice between the two as it gets you on a payroll and earns you a stable income.

The advent of Internet has opened more opportunities for people on the lookout for prospective businesses that will give them their much-needed financial help. In fact, the Internet plays a significant role in the outburst of work from home businesses.

Regardless of the work at home business that you decide to go into, it is worth mentioning that all kinds of businesses involve varying levels of taking risks and gambling. That said, some businesses are less risky than others. But then again, it always pays to know that what we have gotten into is legitimate to save us from headaches and worries in the long run.

Here are some qualities that we should be in the lookout for when searching for legitimate work at home businesses:

• Just as you have found it online, the best way to learn whether the business is indeed legal is by browsing through the Net to find out what other people have to say about it. Search the Internet for necessary information (good or bad) about the company, and surely from there, you’d be able to figure out if indeed it is trustworthy.
• A legitimate work at home business is clear when it comes to giving out the details of the kind of work that you have to do to earn. From the services and the products that they offer, the instructions, and other pertinent information, everything is given in details.
• A legal business will give you contact details. From email addresses to phone numbers, business addresses and the likes, that will help you get in touch from somebody working at their end is a must. Be wary though of those with so many email addresses. This could be a warning sign.
• You will know you’ve gotten yourself a legal work from home job if they are willing to do some mentoring when it comes to how to go about the job. A legitimate business will want nothing but success for you as you endeavor into the same businesses as they did. These legitimate companies will provide you with books, forums, and other sorts of resources to make you knowledgeable on the new business.

There are a lot of these legitimate work from home businesses out there. Finding the right one is that first and primary step to tackle if you plan to get successful in this type of work environment.
